The Colonial Beach Artists’ Guild presents
Hubert Jackson & Carolyn Goodridge
This is a must-see show. Hubert Jackson (born 1943, Culpeper, Virginia) is an American painter, educator, and gallery founder whose career spans over five decades. He developed an interest in art at age six and pursued formal training in painting, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, and photography, receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Virginia State University and his Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Howard University in 1971. He then taught art for 34 years in the Washington, D.C. public school system, including 27 years at Woodrow Wilson High School, serving as a teacher, curriculum designer, and gallery manager, and was involved in the Artists in Schools program. He continued to constantly develop as an artist, studying in Europe, at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. His work, which features highly textured, multicolored planes with an emphasis on light and dark contrasts has been exhibited widely, including through the U.S. Department of State’s Artist in Embassies Program in countries such as Lesotho, Ghana, Guinea, and New Guinea. He often blends non-objective and representational elements, drawing on historical themes and events, which give his work a depth of meaning highly prized by collectors. THIS IS NEW WORK HE IS SHARING WITH US. (And it is amazing - Kathleen Moran, Exec. Director, CB Creative). Equally awesome are the encaustic (pigmented beeswax) pieces by Carolyn Goodridge, lifelong artist and founder of Art Impact International. Carolyn obtained her BFA at Univ of FL and her MFA at UNC. She is interested in spiritual philosophies and inspired by life, music and color. She seeks to capture the wonder of the universe and to do so with drama and emotion.
